Hydraulic Fracturing in the Americas
11–13 August 2008
Cartagena, Colombia
Hydraulic fracturing is one of the most widely used completion alternatives for improving and maximizing hydrocarbon recovery. It has been successfully applied during various stages of hydrocarbon recovery including, exploration, field development, and maturity.
Hydraulic-fracturing technology has been customized to address specific needs and requirements based on formation conditions and reservoir fluids. In the Americas, from Alaska to Patagonia, it has been successfully implemented according to the stage of field development and reservoir conditions. Activity in exploration and field development increases as technology continues to rapidly evolve. With this activity, unconventional resources increase their share in daily production, available engineering resources shift, and new unskilled resources join the work force.
It is necessary to share experiences, both positive and negative, in working with hydraulic fracturing. This workshop will address key topics related to hydraulic fracturing with a focus on experiences and needs in the Americas.
Workshop Format
This workshop uses oral presentations to cover the topics mentioned above. Although no formal papers will be published, the workshop leadership will publish a summary document. This document will include highlighted technologies and practices discussed, along with the conclusions of the workshop and any consensus recommendations.
SPE workshops are content driven and emphasize recent experiences and practices. Participants and presenters are encouraged to speak openly and candidly about the issues. The emphasis of this workshop is on sharing expertise and experiences. Presenters are strongly encouraged—but not required—to provide public versions of their materials for distribution to the participants.
