The Future for Southern North Sea Gas Fields

29 September – 2 October 2008
Scheveningen, The Netherlands

Registration for this workshop is closed.

Gas fields in the Southern North Sea have been in production for the last 40 years or so. As a result, a complex network of infrastructure has been built up, producing a mature gas province. At the same time, technologies are being matured to develop increasingly smaller gas accumulations, often by different operators than the traditional players in the area. In order to ensure an economic profitable future for the Southern North Sea, the area faces a number of challenges:

  • How do we get as much as possible out of existing fields, both in terms of data acquisition and analysis, but also in terms of well interventions and tail-end production optimisation?
  • How can the operations of existing fields be optimised such that end of field life (EoFL) is delayed? Can we accurately forecast the point where economic EoFL is achieved?
  • How can we drill our wells differently such that smaller prospects can be developed economically?
  • What sort of facilities would go with the new well concepts, and what are the consequences for operability?
  • What will the infrastructure of the future look like? Are abandonments hindering further developments?

Answers to these challenges are essential to maximise the economic ultimate recovery of the Southern North Sea.

Workshop Objectives and Deliverables

  • Understand common issues/problems in the further economic development of the Southern North Sea gas fields
  • Identify best practices in operating existing fields and facilities both from a surface and subsurface point of view
  • Establish new technologies that enable the development of new prospects
  • Discuss the future operating environment and the impact on Southern North Sea gas production from operator and regulator perspective

Who Should Attend?

The workshop is a limited attendance meeting for up to 80 people, designed specifically around the needs for the Southern North Sea gas fields. The workshop will be of particular interest to those involved in:

  • Well Engineering
  • Facilities Engineering
  • Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering
  • Production Engineering
  • Operations
  • Asset Management
  • Regulatory/Government Bodies
