Saudi Aramco Awards EPCI Contracts for Pair of Major Projects
A consortium of L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) and Subsea 7 have won an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract for two projects from Saudi Aramco. It marks the fifth award for the consortium from Saudi Aramco, adding on to four previous offshore contracts currently under execution with a long-term agreement.
The new deal is for three oil production deck manifolds and subsea pipelines at the Zuluf and Berri fields. Zuluf has an estimated production capacity between 550,000 and 600,000 BOPD. It is located approximately 25 miles off Saudi Arabia’s northeastern coast, in around 131 ft of water. The Berri field, which is partly onshore and partly offshore Saudi Arabia’s east coast, produces between 250,000 and 300,000 BOPD. Saudi Aramco is planning a major expansion project at Berri which will see the development of more than 200,000 BOPD by the mid-2020s to offset the natural decline of the field.
LTHE said the project will be built at Hazira, its flagship fabrication facility in Gujurat, India.
The contract comes weeks after LTHE’s construction business won contracts to build 115-kV substations with associated transmission lines and cable circuits in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, awards that were part of a larger $298.7-million contract win.
Subsea Markets Face High Stakes if Oil Prices Slide
In a $60 to $70 oil environment, the subsea market is poised to grow around 7% annually up to 2025. But a significant portion of this activity is at risk if the price of Brent crude falls to $50 per barrel.
Swire Seabed Completes Autonomous Pipeline Inspection for Equinor
The subsea operations company said its most recent campaign is the first fully unmanned offshore pipeline inspection completed “over the horizon,” surveying up to 100 km from the shore.

The subsea tieback is expected to start up in 2021. This is Shell’s second major development on a tieback in the US Gulf of Mexico, following Kaikias’ startup in May.
