The Art of Facilitation – How to Make Any Course Engaging

Course Description

This session is built to strengthen basic facilitation and presentation skills, for those with minimal and extensive experience.  This workshop is what every SPE presenter “must know”. We will explore the topics of basics of how adults prefer to learn through preferred learning modalities. We will practice using 4 skills of facilitation to enhance participant retention.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and implement habits to build confidence when presenting.
  • Explore how to make technical subjects more engaging.
  • Discover your preferred learning modality as it pertains to auditory, visual, and kinesthetic.
  • Practice using 4 basic skills of facilitation and presenting

To explore how to make all subjects, technical and otherwise, more interactive and engaging, and to identify and implement habits of building confidence when presenting.

Who Attends

Anyone who would like to enhance their engagement skills.

CEUs

Engineers are responsible for enhancing their professional competence throughout their careers. Licensed, chartered, and/or certified engineers are sometimes required by government entities to provide proof of continued professional development and training. Training credits are defined as Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development Hours (PDHs).

Attendees of SPE training courses earn 0.4 CEUs for each day of training. We provide each attendee a certificate upon completion of the training course.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be received no later than 14 days prior to the course start date. Cancellations made after the 14-day window will not be refunded. Refunds will not be given due to no show situations.

SPE reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule courses at will. Notification of changes will be made as quickly as possible; please keep this in mind when arranging travel, as SPE is not responsible for any fees charged for cancelling or changing travel arrangements.

We reserve the right to substitute course instructors as necessary.

Instructor

Colleen Watson, ERM, with over 20 years’ experience in the Employee Development Industry, Colleen Watson is a Partner with ERM and specializes in assessing organizational training needs, designing and developing adult learning programs, and facilitating team safety workshops. A graduate of Saint Mary’s University where she received her B.A. in Early and Secondary Education, and a degree in TESL from the University of Madrid Spain, Colleen has valuable experience as a Master Facilitator, concentrating on the Accelerative Learning Methodology.  She is a Partner in the Sustainable Safety Practice as the Global Client Development and Training Services Leader. Colleen is also a Behavior Specialist CPBA, who focuses on Leadership and HSSE Behavioral Safety development, Field Coaching, and High Impact Engagement and Facilitation Skills.

Colleen has utilized her experience working with a number of Fortune 500 companies in many sectors, including around the world inducing behaviour change and shifting performance.
