Oil and Gas Value Chain Decarbonization

Disciplines: Data Science and Engineering Analytics | Management | Reservoir

Course Description

Day 1 (CCS Focus): Half day - 4 Hours

  • Introduction to CCS and Value Chain
    • This will provide an overview of CCS and the key components of the CCS value chain from capture, through transport to storage. It will include some example of current major projects around the world
  • CCS Classification systems (SRMS, ISO) and examples
    • This section will cover international classification systems including SRMS, ISO-27914 and the key aspects to consider when reviewing CCS projects including injectivity, containment, storable quantities, monitoring, risk assessment
  • Impact of carbon pricing on oil and gas reserves
    • This sector will provide a hypothetical case study of carbon impact on reserve and resources valuation.

Day 2 (Emissions Focus): Half day - 4 Hours

  • Carbon emissions, mitigation of emissions and disclosure
  • Major greenhouse gas (GHG) management & disclosure frameworks/standards/guidelines
    • This section will cover major GHG management and reporting frameworks, such as ISO, The GHG Protocol, IPCC, GRI, ISSB etc.
  • Oil gas sector carbon abatement opportunities
    • This section will cover main abatement opportunities for oil/gas sector decarbonization, including flaring gas reduction, fugitive emissions abatement, carbon capture and storage, efficiency, electrification etc. Techno-economic status for each abatement technology will be reviewed.

Learning Level

Introductory to Intermediate

Course Length

This is a one-day seminar, delivered across two half-days.

Why Attend

  • Oil and gas operations account for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • To meet carbon emissions targets the oil and gas sector needs to introduce changes even if demand for hydrocarbons remains.
  • This webinar will provide an overview of the main decarbonisation levers that can transform the oil and gas sector, such as flaring reduction, CCS, electrification, fuel switch, and reservoir management.

Who Attends

  • Oil & gas professionals involved carbon emissions reduction and CCS.
  • Other disciplines interested in CCS and emissions reductions.

CEUs

0.8 CEUs are awarded for this course.

Instructors

Douglas Peacock has 40 years of experience in the oil industry covering a variety of geoscience positions. He has been involved in exploration, development and reserves estimation throughout his career. Currently, he is Technical Director – Geoscience based in GaffneyCline’s Singapore office. He is a recent (2013-16) member of the SPE Oil and Gas Reserves Committee (OGRC) and was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer during 2010-11.

Doug has worked on several CCS projects and SRMS assessments, including the first reported classification of Storage resources under the SRMS. He has given several training courses for CCS and SRMS, including for SPE.

None

Tony Zhang is an expert on CCS policy, regulations and commercialization. He has worked on many CCS projects with major oil and gas companies and power companies. Tony worked for ten years at the Global CCS Institute and is now head of Carbon Management and Energy Transition for GaffneyCline Asia-Pacific.
