Course Description

This course is an introduction to well integrity, its history, its barriers and how to apply it to wells using guidelines,
standards and regulations. Following the material selection process, it goes into well construction, completion
concepts and Christmas trees. Several concepts will be introduced including well operating envelope description, well handover and operate phase, well problems, change management, case studies and well abandonment.

Why Attend

The practical course looks at a wide range of well issues and is based on the instructor's global
experience. Attendees will be able to understand well problems, understand the value of data in the diagnosis and solution process, use a range of tools and techniques that will provide support for risk assessments and solutions, and deal with problems in a cost effective way.

Who Attends

This beginners course is targeted at a wide range of industry professionals, graduates, and completion, production, and petroleum engineers. For industry executives and managers, it provides insight into how wells work and what might go wrong, especially the impact of design and construct decisions on later field life and well abandonment.

Special Requirements

Before the course, attendees will be asked to complete a questionnaire so that the instructor understands the
range of issues.

CEUs

0.8 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) are awarded for this 1-day course.

Simon Sparke began his career in the Middle East in 1978. Over 40 years, he gained field experience in Central and Southern America, UK onshore, North Sea, Australasia, Canada, Russian Arctic, West Siberia, Central Asia and West Africa. He has supervised, designed and planned a wide range of field operations including well testing, completions, workovers and much more. He has also worked for financial institutions and government regulators providing advice and guidance on investments and well status.

In 2005, after earning an MBA from the University of Portsmouth, he joined Tullow Oil as the global head of well integrity managing an increasing and international well stock of on and offshore wells. In this capacity he built a world class well integrity management system that brought together data sets from well construction, operations, and production to produce a management reporting system that tracked more than 1,000 wells (SPE-142449-MS). While working for Tullow Oil, Simon collaborated with 14 colleagues to coauthor ISO-16530 Well Integrity - Life Cycle Governance. He began giving well integrity courses to a wide range of institutions in 2013. In 2015, he built another well integrity management system for Lundin Petroleum in Oslo.

Simon has published 7 SPE papers to date.
