Wireline Engineering Best Practices and Case Studies

Disciplines: Completions | Drilling | Production and Operations | Projects, Facilities, and Construction

Course Description

This short course is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of surface equipment, downhole tools, various applications, and operational contingencies for rig-less well interventions involving slickline, braided line, and  electric line.  The participants will learn first-hand knowledge of the capability of each intervention and what to consider when choosing which intervention method to utilize.  The course will cover recommended risk mitigation and well control barriers as well as best practices gained from years of experience and application.  To further illustrate the intervention methods utilized to resolve well issues or enhance well performance, real world examples for slickline, braided line and electric line will be presented and discussed.

Upon completion of this short course, the participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and explain the function of slickline, braided line, and electric line equipment
  • Recognize and explain the function of the pressure control equipment and bottom-hole assembly’s for slickline, braided line, and electric line equipment interventions
  • Identify common applications for slickline, braided line, and electric line interventions
  • Assess the pros and cons of each intervention and evaluate which intervention type to utilize for various job problems
  • Identify and describe critical job design considerations for each job type of intervention that should be present in a contractor proposal
  • Discuss risks associated with each type of intervention and the corresponding mitigation controls recommended for each job type
  • Enhance slickline, braided line, and electric line equipment intervention safety, efficiency, and success by applying industry best practices and lessons learned for each job type
  • Assess how to approach, rig up and perform fishing jobs

Learning Level

Intermediate

Course Length

1-Day

Why Attend

You should attend this course to expand your knowledge of rig-less live well interventions including slickline, braided line, and electric line equipment. The engineering design considerations, recommended safety policies, and best practices that will be discussed in this class will directly affect your operations in a positive way.  There are great cost savings to be realized when rig-less interventions are conducted safely and efficiently.  Equally, poorly understood and planned rig-less interventions create very costly and often dangerous problems for operators.  These issues can be avoided with the knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned provided in this short course.

Who Attends

This course is designed for engineers, senior operations personnel, and company representatives with intermediate well intervention knowledge who are assigned to evaluate, plan, and/or execute slickline, braided line, and electric line interventions.

Special Requirements

Students will need to bring their laptops if the course is being held in-person.

CEUs

0.8 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) will be awarded for this 1-day course.
